SPRING CLEANING

Here is a list of things you can do to your website this spring...

  1. Check the site to see that is looks correct in the most recent versions of Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Safari....or we can do that for you!
  2. Have you changed any email addresses that may effect forms on your website??
  3. Do you offer any new services or products that should appear on your site?
  4. Should any of the META keywords, descriptions or titles be revised to reflect changes in your business?
  5. Update the look of your site, or at least your Home Page if you have not done that in a while. Keep it looking fresh!
  6. Install Google Analytics (free service from Google) that allows you to track traffic to your site along with some great statistical tools.

Let us know if you need assistance implementing any of these...we'd be glad to help!

Mobilize Your Old Website for New Technology

"Does your website work on an iPhone or Blackberry?"
by Del Maxwell

Have you ever tried to use your website on a mobile device such as an iPhone or Blackberry? Sites that were built before these devices became popular likely do not work quite right. Problems include technical functions that don't operate correctly, layout irregularities and too slow downloads.

Two technologies that won't function on many devices are Flash intros and drop down navigation menus. There are a few methods to work around those problems. Any Flash animation can be set to display an alternate image when a Flash Player isn't present. That means instead of seeing a big blank space on the page where your Flash is located, users will see a static image with your message. Drop navigation menus are fine to use on your site, but should be setup in a way that mobile devices can still access all the links to your sub pages.

Layout and download speed can often be improved by simplifying parts of your site a little. Hiding repetitive or unnecessary content and imagery will allow users to quickly navigate your site to find the specific page and content they are looking for.

The cost for mobilizing your website depends on how big it is and also on the type of technology used to build it.

DID YOU KNOW??

American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating 1 olive from each salad served in first-class.

Did you know that?

Is there something you can eliminate in your business that may save you a bundle?

TESTIMONIALS...(from one of our recent projects)

"You guys are my heroes."

"From someone who has been test-driving (and test spending) for over a year, I thought you might like to know what's going on in the world of web design. Here are some highlights from stops along the road leading to you:

Designer #1: talented, capable, too busy, didn't need my work.
Designer #2: incompetent, lacking talent & ability, unschooled in customer relations, I felt robbed.
Designer #3: kind, courteous, talented, lacked technical ability. Coding: sloppy. Pricing: sloppy. I felt forced to settle in consideration of the "generosity" reflected in her pricing. She had the confidence of a Mercedes dealer, but there were only Hyundais in her lot. More money wasted.
Designer #4: a well meaning friend, not attuned to the functionality of my site, made inaccurate assumptions about my needs, rethought things that didn't need rethinking, tried to squeeze me into a window that I didn't fit in.

ENTER SONORA: After filling out your on line form I was contacted within the hour and hey, what do you know, I received professional, courteous treatment! Your level of knowledge, experience and expertise were just what I was looking for. You delivered excellent work and I couldn't believe the turn around. It's not true that all the good ones are taken, Sononra DesignWorks is a keeper. Thanks guys, I wish I'd found you before wasting so much time and money on your competition."
